My purpose in life is to live with a thankful heart each day by living for my Savior Jesus, by appreciating family and friends through words and actions, by helping everyone I meet feel like worthwhile, valued individuals, and by enhancing the lives of others through my writing, counseling, speaking, and teaching.
For more than four decades through my writing, counseling, speaking, and teaching, I have absolutely enjoyed enhancing individual lives, enriching couple relationships, and educating parents with commonsense wisdom.
I have a Bachelor of Science, Master of Education in Administration, Master of Divinity, and Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. My professional career began as a Lutheran high school teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, and head varsity basketball and football coach.
For nearly 25 years, I was a professor of pastoral counseling, Vice President of Student Personnel Services, and Dean of Students at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. I taught classes in family counseling, marriage counseling, premarital counseling, crisis counseling, bereavement, and more. I also wrote a Family Counselor column for the Lutheran Witness magazine for nearly 15 years.
For over three decades, I have had a successful counseling practice helping individuals, couples, and families enjoy satisfying lives and rewarding relationships. I believe an absence of knowledge and skills, not a lack of desire, is what holds people back from accomplishing their individual, marriage, parenting, and relationship goals. I am committed to educating and teaching others how to enrich their lives and relationships.
I am an enthusiastic speaker who enjoys inspiring and motivating others to accomplish their goals. I have spoken to numerous church groups, conferences, and businesses, providing practical tips and encouragement on marriage, parenting, and various life topics.
My wife, Ginny, and I have been married since 1975 and have two married sons and seven grandchildren. I enjoy a successful counseling practice in Carmel, Indiana
